Angler Saved By Law Enforcement After Falling Through The Ice On Big Lake


RELEASED THE NAMES OF THOSE INVOLVED. ANOTHER DAY AND MORE ICE RESCUES FOR AREA FIRST RESPONDERS. AT LEAST NINE PEOPLE IN THE BRAINERD AND BEMIDJI AREA HAVE GONE THROUGH THE ICE ON LAKES THIS WEEK. THEY WERE ALL SAVED BY LOCAL RESPONDERS INCLUDING A MAN WHO WENT THROUGH THE ICE TODAY ON BIG LAKE, ABOUT 15 MILES EAST OF BEMIDJI. THE INCIDENT HAPPENED SHORTLY BEFORE 1:00 TODAY ON THE SOUTH SIDE OF THE LAKE. FIRST RESPONDERS ATTEMPTED TO REACH HIM USING A FLOTATION DEVICE, BUT AFTER ABOUT THIRTY MINUTES, A HOVERCRAFT WAS USED TO REACH THE MAN INSTEAD. SHORTLY AFTER, THE BELTRAMI COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT ALSO RESPONDED TO AN ATV WITH TWO PEOPLE INSIDE THROUGH THE ICE ON LAKE KITCHI ABOUT FOUR MILES EAST. AROUND 4:30 YESTERDAY AFTERNOON, THE SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT RESPONDED TO AN ATV THROUGH THE ICE ON CRANE LAKE, JUST NORTH OF BEMIDJI.
