Let’s talk now about some techniques for
keeping your reel on your jig rod working properly. One of the things that you always
want to do is care for your equipment. If you don’t and it becomes dirty, parts wear
out, it’s not lubricated, eventually it’s going to fail on you, and more than likely,
at least with my luck, it’s going to fail on you when you have a really big fish on,
it’s the last thing you want to happen. And one thing is you want to always clean these.
Simply take a rag, just wipe them down a little bit, get some of the dirt, get some of the
grime off. Another thing that you want to do, it’s always good to purchase a small inexpensive
bottle of some reel oil. And you want to just put that at a couple of points, you can- most
reels there’s different parts that you can take off, usually the handles are interchangeable,
so you would just take off this,
pour a little bit of reel oil in there, put this back on, simply turn the handle a few
times. Also you can take off the top, this whole top pops off and there’s a single stem
sticking up, a simple drop or two of that reel oil, put that back on, turn this back
on, again crank it a few times to distribute the oil, and you’ll be good to go.
