Reel Animals Fishing Show 1519

>>”REEL ANIMALS FISHING SHOW”
IS PRESENTED BY: YELLOWFIN YACHTS.
>>ONE OF THE BEST PARTS ABOUT MY GIG IS I GET TO FISH WITH THE
BEST OF THE BEST EVERY TIME I’M ON THE WATER ALL OVER THE
SOUTHEASTERN UNITED STATES. TODAY, NO DIFFERENT.
I’M WITH MY GOOD FRIEND CAPTAIN RHETT MORRIS.
WE’RE FISHING OUT OF PUNTA GORDA, FLORIDA,
BURNT STORE MARINA. IF I WERE YOU, I WOULDN’T TOUCH
THAT DIAL. IT’S GONNA BE OFF THE HOOK.

>>WE MADE ABOUT A SIX-MILE RUN FROM THE MARINA THIS MORNING.
BEAUTIFUL, BEAUTIFUL MORNING. IT’S KIND OF EARLY FALL.
AND WE HAD A FRONT COME THROUGH JUST A COUPLE OF DAYS AGO, AND
IT’S DROPPED THE AIR TEMP A LITTLE BIT.
SEEMS TO BE A LOT LESS HUMIDITY THIS MORNING.
WE’RE FISHING A FALLING TIDE. IT’S PROBABLY CLOSE TO LOW.
AND RHETT HAS BEEN ON A BUNCH OF REDFISH, SCHOOLS OF OVERSIZED
FISH ALL UP AND DOWN THE BARS OUT HERE.
AND WE’RE HOPING TO GET SOME TOP-WATER ACTION FIRST THING
THIS MORNING. WE’LL SEE HOW IT GOES.

>>GORGEOUS MORNING.
ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL OUT HERE.>>THAT’S WHAT I LOVE ABOUT —
YOU KNOW, WE TALKED A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THIS ON THE PHONE LAST
NIGHT. YOU KNOW WE STARTED TALKING
ABOUT THE FACT THAT, MAN, JUST BEING OUT THERE IS SO MUCH OF IT
THAT PEOPLE OVERLOOK NOWADAYS.>>YEAH.
>>I MEAN THIS IS 2015. WE’RE FISHING SOME OF THE MOST
GORGEOUS PRISTINE BACK COUNTRY AREA IN THE WEST COAST OF
FLORIDA. AND NOT ONE BOAT HAS RUN BY AND
BLOWN US UP.>>YEAH.
>>THERE’S NOT EVEN A BOAT IN SIGHT.
I MEAN THAT’S ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE IN THIS DAY AND AGE.
>>YEAH. WELL, I THINK, YOU KNOW, I THINK
IN TODAY’S DAY AND AGE, THE IMMEDIATE GRATIFICATION DEAL,
YOU KNOW.>>YEAH.
>>WHERE EVERYBODY JUST WANTS TO COME OUT AND CATCH FISH.
AND WE DON’T SLOW DOWN AND REALIZE WHERE WE ARE AND WHAT
WE’RE GETTING TO DO. I MEAN THIS IS INCREDIBLE STUFF
THAT THE GOOD LORD HAS BLESSED US WITH.
AND SO MANY PEOPLE LOOK PAST IT EVERY DAY.
IT’S RIDICULOUS.>>YOU’RE SO RIGHT.
>>IT REALLY IS. IT’S RIDICULOUS.
HERE I AM WITH A GOOD FRIEND ON THE WATER CHASING FISH.
I MEAN THE REST OF IT IS JUST IRRELEVANT.
>>AS YOU GET A LITTLE OLDER, YOU START TO REALIZE, YOU KNOW,
WHY YOU SHOULD BE MORE THANKFUL ABOUT THINGS LIKE THAT.
>>RIGHT.>>THAT’S ONE OF THE THINGS I
ALWAYS GIVE THANKS FOR — IS THE FACT THAT I WAS ABLE TO GET OLD
ENOUGH IN MY LIFE TO START REALIZING ABOUT THE THINGS YOU
REALLY ARE SUPPOSED TO BE THANKFUL FOR.
>>THINGS THAT MATTER.

>>MIRROLURE’S MARSH MINNOW IS
ONE OF THE GREATEST SOFT PADDLE TAIL BAITS TO HIT THE MARKET
HERE LATELY. AND I’M GOING WITH IT BECAUSE
THEY ARE SHYING UP ON OUR TOP WATERS.
THE SIGN THAT THEY WANT TO TAKE SOMETHING A LITTLE LOWER BELOW
THE SURFACE. AND THIS HAS GOT A LEAD-HEAD JIG
RUNS BELOW THE SURFACE, TAIL KICKING LIKE CRAZY.
AND SHOULD DO THE TRICK.>>NOW, LET ME ASK YOU A
QUESTION. DO YOU THINK THE COLOR OF YOUR
JIG HEAD MATTERS WHEN YOU’RE THROWING PLASTICS?
>>YES AND NO. [LAUGHTER]
>>IT’S ABOUT THE BEST WAY I CAN ANSWER THAT.
SOME DAYS I SWEAR THAT WHITE IS THE ONLY THING THEY TOUCH.
AND I HAVE PLENTY OF REALLY GOOD BUDDIES THAT WILL SAY RED OR
WHITE. IT’S GOT TO BE RED OR IT’S GOT
TO BE WHITE. IF YOU ARE THROWING RED, YOU
MIGHT AS WELL NOT EVEN THROW IT. AND I’VE NEVER GOTTEN THAT ANAL
ABOUT MY JIG HEAD COLOR. I THINK IT HAS MORE TO DO WITH
THE WAY YOU’RE WORKING THE PLASTIC BAIT THAN THE COLOR OF
THE JIG HEAD. BUT I WILL DEFINITELY ADMIT
THERE ARE DAYS I THINK THE COLOR OF JIG HEAD WILL MATTER.
I THINK I SEE A FAINT BIT OF THEM RIGHT HERE.
YEAH. ABOUT 50 YARDS OUT.
IT’S ALMOST LIKE THEY ARE SLIDING THROUGH HERE.
THEY ARE REAL SOFT. THEY ARE NOT PUSHING.
>>NO.>>I’M NOT TOO SURE.
>>I CAN’T TELL EITHER.>>THEY ARE RIGHT OUT HERE
SOMEWHERE.>>A LITTLE BIT OF WIND GOING.
>>IT’S SHALLOW. KEEP YOUR BAIT MOVING.
>>IS IT?>>YEAH.
I’M GOING TO GO BACK TO TOP WATER.
>>OKAY.>>THE REASON I’M GOING TO
CHANGE BACK TO TOP WATER IS WHEN SOMETHING — WHEN YOU’RE BOTH
THROWING THE SAME THING AND IT DOESN’T SEEM TO REALLY BE
LIGHTING IT UP, YOU SHOULD ALWAYS HAVE SOMEBODY THROWING
SOMETHING ELSE.>>THAT’S A GREAT POINT.
>>RIGHT NOW WE’RE JUST KIND OF TROLLING AROUND ON THIS LOW
WATER TRYING TO FIND THESE FISH. RHETT HAS BEEN ON A BUNCH OF
SCHOOLS ON THIS FLAT. AND AS WE HAVE BEEN KIND OF —
WE HAVE BEEN THROWING SOME TOP WATERS.
WE HAD A COUPLE OF FISH KIND OF COME UP ON OUR TOP WATERS, BUT
THEY ARE NOT OVERLY AGGRESSIVE THIS MORNING.
WE WENT TO THE MARSH MINNOW WHICH IS BY FAR ONE OF MY
FAVORITE PADDLE TAIL BAITS ON THE MARKET.
BUT I HAD MINE RIGGED ON A JIG HEAD.
AND WITH THE JIG HEAD, YOU ARE JUST A LITTLE BIT DEEPER THAN
WHAT WE WANT TO BE. SO WHILE WE WERE KIND OF MILLING
AROUND TRYING TO FIND THESE FISH AGAIN, I WENT AHEAD AND RIGGED
ONE WEEDLESS. AND THAT’S GOING TO GIVE ME THE
ABILITY — IF THEY BLOW UP ON THE TOP WATER BUT THEY WON’T EAT
IT, WE CAN GO RIGHT IN BEHIND IT.
DOESN’T MATTER HOW SHALLOW THEY ARE.
WE ARE GOING TO BE ABLE TO WORK THIS WITHOUT GETTING SNAGGED UP,
WITHOUT CATCHING GRASS, WITHOUT POTENTIALLY SPOOKING A FISH.
BUT MORE THAN ANYTHING, I’M GOING TO BE PREPARED.
ONE OF THE THINGS YOU NEED TO DO IS YOU NEED TO BE READY OUT
HERE. I SEE GUYS ALL THE TIME KIND OF
SCRAMBLING AT THE LAST MINUTE. YOU KNOW, WITH SCHOOLS OF
REDFISH, BIG SNOOK, THINGS LIKE THAT, SOMETIMES YOU DON’T HAVE
TIME. YOU NEED TO BE PREPARED.
I HAD EVERYTHING TIED UP. I ACTUALLY HAD THIS WEEDLESS
WEIGHTED HOOK TIED UP, BUT I DIDN’T HAVE THE MARSH MINNOW ON
HERE THIS MORNING. NOW I HAVE GOT IT ON HERE.
NOW I’M READY TO GO. HOPEFULLY WE GET ANOTHER SHOT
LIKE WE JUST HAD AND WE’LL BE ABLE TO CLOSE THE DEAL.
JUST GET YOURSELF PREPARED AND YOU’LL CATCH A LOT MORE FISH.
>>HEY, GANG.
CAPTAIN MIKE ANDERSON HERE WITH THE “REEL ANIMALS” FISHING TEAM
AND YOUR FISHING TIP OF THE WEEK.
THIS WEEK I WANT TO TALK TO YOU ABOUT FISHING THE TIDES.
WE HAVE GOT TWO MAJOR MOON PHASES A MONTH.
WE’VE GOT THE FULL MOON AND THE NEW MOON.
MY FAVORITE DAYS OF THE MONTH ARE THE FIRST FOUR DAYS BEFORE
THE FULL AND BEFORE THE NEW MOON.
NOW I ALWAYS PREFER THE NEW MOON BECAUSE IT’S DARK AT NIGHT.
THE DARKER AT NIGHT THE BETTER IT IS.
FISH BY NATURE, THEY ARE NOCTURNAL FEEDERS.
SO IF THEY HAVE LESS LIGHT AT NIGHT, NO MOON, THE DARK MOON,
THEY TEND TO NOT EAT AS MUCH AND THEY EAT BETTER DURING THE DAY.
NOW, WHEN YOU GO OFFSHORE, IT’S IMPERATIVE FOR SOME REASON THAT
WE STAY AWAY FROM THE FULL MOON. THE FULL MOON IS ALWAYS TOUGHER
OFFSHORE. BUT INSHORE GOOD MOVING WATER IS
ALWAYS THE KEY. FIRST FOUR DAYS BEFORE THE FULL.
FIRST FOUR OR FIVE DAYS BEFORE THE NEW.
DEFINITELY YOUR BEST TIDES OF THE MONTH.
ALSO REMEMBER THIS LITTLE TIP. AN OLD-TIMER TAUGHT ME A LONG
TIME AGO ON THE NEW MOON, AS YOU’RE APPROACHING THE NEW MOON,
FISH THE INCOMING TIDES. ALWAYS GOING TO BE A BETTER BITE
ON THE INCOMING TIDE. IF YOU ARE APPROACHING THE FULL
MOON, ALWAYS FISH THE OUTGOING TIDES.
DON’T ASK ME WHY. JUST THROUGH THE YEARS PLAYING
THE SYSTEM, THOSE ARE ALWAYS YOUR BEST BETS.
FOR MORE INFORMATION ON WHERE YOU CAN GET YOUR TIDES, YOU CAN
GET YOURSELF A FLORIDA SPORTSMAN FISHING PLANNER AT YOUR LOCAL
TACKLE STORES. A LOT OF THE TACKLE STORES WILL
HAVE SOME OF THEIR OWN MADE UP FOR YOU SO YOU CAN CHECK THE
TIDES IN THOSE AREAS. FISH THOSE TIDES THAT ARE MOVING
THE BEST. YOUR BIGGEST TURNS IN THE TIDE
ARE GOING TO BE WHEN YOUR FISH ARE GOING TO CHEW THE BEST.
CHECK THEM OUT. YOU WILL CATCH MORE FISH.
TAKE IT TO THE BANK.

>>IF YOUR GUIDE IS WILLING TO GET OUT OF THE BOAT AND PUSH THE
BOAT, YOU MAKE SURE YOU KEEP HIS NUMBER.
[LAUGHTER] HE’S A GOOD ONE TO CONTACT WHEN
YOU WANT TO GO FISHING BECAUSE THAT’S SOME CRAZY EFFORT.
[LAUGHTER]>>MAIN THING IS WE JUST GAINED
TWO ADVANTAGES HERE. ONE, WE’RE NOT MOVING IN SHALLOW
WATER. AND TWO, WE’RE DOING IT REAL
SILENTLY. A LOT OF PEOPLE DON’T UNDERSTAND
HOW MUCH A FISH CAN HEAR. YEAH, THOSE BLADES SPINNING AND
THAT LITTLE ELECTRIC HUM, YOU KNOW, 20 YEARS AGO NO ONE
EVER THOUGHT A FISH COULD HEAR A TROLLING MOTOR BECAUSE THEY
WOULD NEVER MOVE AWAY FROM YOU. BUT NOWADAYS, THERE’S A LOT MORE
BOAT TRAFFIC. A LOT MORE PEOPLE TRYING TO
CATCH THE FISH. AND THEY LEARN JUST BY
ASSOCIATION THAT, YOU KNOW, THEY GOT HARASSED EVERY DAY THIS WEEK
EVERY TIME THEY HEARD THAT LITTLE HUM.
>>WE’VE BEEN KIND OF MILLING AROUND HERE THIS MORNING WAITING
FOR THIS TIDE TO GET REALLY, REALLY LOW.
WE’VE GOT A BAR THAT RUNS THE OUTSIDE EDGE HERE AND TRYING TO
GET THESE FISH RIGHT WHERE YOU WANT THEM TO BE IS A LOT EASIER
ON THIS SUPER LOW WATER. SO WE HAVE BEEN MILLING AROUND
UP AND DOWN, KIND OF TRYING TO FIND THE RIGHT SCHOOL.
LET THIS TIDE GET LOW ENOUGH SO THEY GET OUT HERE WHERE THEY ARE
A LITTLE EASIER TO FIND. WE HAVE GOT A SCHOOL OUT HERE
WORKING. WE ARE GOING TO SEE IF WE CAN
GET SOME OF THESE TOP WATERS IN AND SEE IF WE CAN LIGHT A COUPLE
UP HERE. SUCH A BEAUTIFUL BAR HERE.
>>IT IS GORGEOUS.>>IT REALLY IS.
>>SEE THE NICE THING ABOUT THIS PLACE, TOO, IS IT’S REAL HARD.
YOU CAN WALK THIS PLACE ALL YOU WANT BECAUSE THE SAND IS NOT
THAT SUPER SOFT SILT WHERE YOU SINK UP PAST YOUR ANKLES EVERY
TIME YOU GET IN.>>RIGHT.
>>I’D JUST START BOMBING SOME CASTS DOWN THAT WAY, BUD.
>>YOU CAN MAKE A LONG CAST WITH THAT WIND AT YOUR BACK WITH A
TOP WATER PLUG.>>YEAH.
YEAH. THEY ARE JUST EASING DOWN THAT
REEF.>>I WAS GOING TO SAY THEY ARE
MILLING THAT WAY.>>YEAH.
>>WE’RE ON THE MOVE.>>OH, BUSTED.
>>HE’S ON IT.>>CATCH HIM, BABY.
COME ON. DO IT FOR ME.
FISH ON. [LAUGHTER]
>>DUDE, THAT WAS SO FAR AWAY IT’S UNBELIEVABLE.
[LAUGHTER] IT IS UNBELIEVABLE.
>>REACH OUT AND TOUCH THEM. SERIOUSLY CATCH FIVE, BABY.
>>IT MAY TAKE YOU 20 MINUTES TO GET THAT FISH IN THE BOAT.
>>FOR REAL. [LAUGHTER]
THAT’S THE THING TOO, MAN. YOU’VE GOT TO REMEMBER WHEN
YOU’RE TRYING TO MAKE A LONG CAST OR WHATEVER, POSITION YOUR
BOAT, IF YOU HAVE THE ABILITY TO DO SO, AT THE RIGHT ANGLE.
IT WILL GIVE YOU 25 TO 30 FEET EXTRA ON YOUR CAST ALL DAY LONG.
>>ALL DAY LONG.>>INSTEAD OF THE DIFFERENCE —
AND I’M TALKING 15 DEGREES.>>RIGHT.
>>YOU COME OVER AND GET MORE IN A TRUE LINE WITH THE DIRECTION
OF YOUR WIND, YOU’RE GOING TO GET A LOT BETTER DISTANCE.
BOY, THAT FISH IS FIGHTING LIKE A CHAMP, MAN.
FIGHTING BIGGER THAN HE WAS. NOW, LOOK AT THAT.
THAT IS NOT A HUGE REDFISH, AND HE WAS STILL UP ON THAT TOP
WATER PLUG LIKE A CHAMPION.>>GREAT.
THAT’S THE NICE PART, REALLY THE NICE PART ABOUT TAKING THAT
BACK. WE’VE ONLY GOT THAT ONE HOOK IN
THIS FISH. BUT HE’S RIGHT.
LOOK AT THE BACK. REALLY DARK-COLORED BACK BECAUSE
THE WATER IS ALL TANNIC HERE. PRETTY FISH.
NO SPOTS EITHER.>>YEAH, CLEAN.
>>PRETTY FISH, HUH? PRETTY FISH.
>>YEAH. ISN’T THAT A PLEASURE?
JUST DEALING WITH ONE TREBLE HOOK.
>>IT’S REALLY NICE.>>IT’S SO MUCH SAFER FOR THE
FISH AND A HELL OF A LOT SAFER FOR YOU TOO WHEN YOU’RE NOT
TRYING TO AVOID GETTING HUNG.>>THAT CAST WAS UNBELIEVABLE
RIGHT THERE, HUH?>>SWEET FISH, MAN.
>>MIRROLURE, CAPTAIN RHETT MORRIS RIGHT HERE IN PUNTA
GORDA, FLORIDA. YOU’VE GOT TO COME GET SOME OF
THAT. THAT’S GOOD STUFF RIGHT THERE.
THAT’S GOOD STUFF. [SPLASHING]
OH, YOU READY TO GO?>>HE WAS READY.
>>READY TO GO, READY TO GO. ATTABOY, KIDDO.
>>NICE WORK, MAN.>>ATTABOY, HUH?
BOOM. NICE.
MY TURN.>>THAT WAS A HARD-FOUGHT BATTLE
RIGHT THERE.>>THAT WAS NICE.

BULL BAY RODS, COMBINED WITH ORIGINAL FUJI GUIDES FOR A
DIFFERENCE YOU CAN FEEL. “REEL ANIMALS” TACKLE BOX
PRESENTED BY CCA FLORIDA AND THE CCA STAR TOURNAMENT.
>>IT’S REALLY A PERFECT SETUP.>>YEAH, IT IS WORKING OUT
GREAT.>>IT’S TAKEN US A WHILE.
WE WERE ON THE WATER FOR A LITTLE WHILE.
>>YEAH.>>TRYING TO GET THE FISH
EXACTLY WHERE RHETT WANTED THEM AND DOING EXACTLY WHAT HE WANTED
THEM TO DO TO TRY TO BE ABLE TO CATCH THEM.
AND YESTERDAY THIS ACTUALLY HAPPENED A LITTLE EARLIER FOR
HIM, WHICH IS OFTEN THE CASE WHEN YOU’RE WORKING THESE TIDES.
IF YOU THINK ABOUT THAT, WHEN YOU ARE THINKING ABOUT
SOMETHING, JUST BECAUSE IT HAPPENED AT 7:00 TODAY MAY NOT
HAPPEN AT 7:00 TOMORROW BECAUSE IT WILL BE A DIFFERENCE IN YOUR
TIDE TABLE. SO YOUR WATER DEPTH AND TIDE
SITUATION IS GOING TO BE DIFFERENT.
>>OH!
LOOK AT THAT STRIKE. OH, MY GOD.
>>HE MISSED IT. HOW DID HE MISS IT?
>>I’VE GOT ONE ME. FISH ON.
>>HOW DID HE MISS IT?>>HOW COULD HE POSSIBLY HAVE
MISSED THAT?>>I DON’T KNOW.
BUT HE’S STILL ON IT.>>I SAW THE WHOLE FISH’S SIDE,
MAN.>>HE MISSED IT.
CAME OUT OF THE WATER AND MISSED IT.
I DON’T EVEN KNOW HOW THAT’S POSSIBLE.
>>THAT WAS — LOOK AT HIM BUSTING ON TOP.
>>I DON’T EVEN KNOW HOW IT’S POSSIBLE.
AND THEN HE TURNED OFF OF IT. UNBELIEVABLE.
AND RHETT IS ON YET AGAIN. [LAUGHTER]
>>IT’S JUST SILLY, ISN’T IT?>>IT IS SILLY.
>>HOW MANY TIMES HAVE YOU HAD GOOD OL’ FISHING BUDDIES THAT
COME OUT ON THE BOAT WITH YOU — AND THEY BOTH HAVE EQUAL SKILL.
AND ONE DAY EVERY NOW AND THEN THE ONE GUY IS JUST HOOKING UP
LEFT, RIGHT AND CENTER.>>IT HAPPENS ALL THE TIME.
>>HIS BUDDY WILL GO THROW RIGHT WHERE HE’S THROWING.
>>YEAH, CAN’T GET BIT.>>CAN’T GET BIT.
EVERY DOG HAS ITS DAY AS THEY SAY.
>>YOU ARE ON FIRE.>>MIKEY, COME BACK HERE, MAN.
THAT BOW IS HUNG UP. AND WE’RE GOING TO GET OFF THIS
BOW SO WE CAN KEEP DRIFTING.
>>HERE YOU GO. BRING HIM TO ME.
>>I JUST DON’T WANT TO SIT STILL WHILE THOSE FISH ARE
LEAVING US.>>NO.
I’M WITH YOU. [REELING]
>>UH-OH.>>GOOD JOB.
GOT HIM OUT OF THE CRAB TRAP. YOU’VE GOT THAT TROLLING MOTOR
ON, THOUGH?>>NO.
WE’RE STILL.>>OKAY.
>>HERE, GRAB THE POLE.>>I’VE GOT IT.
[SPLASHING]>>EASY, LITTLE FELLA.
>>THAT ONE LOOKS LIKE A SLOT FISH.
>>NOT BAD. YEAH, HE’S DEFINITELY NOT
OUTSIDE.>>NO.
>>LOOK AT THAT COLOR, MAN.>>IT’S UNBELIEVABLE HOW RED
THEY ARE. DARK ON THE TOP, BRONZE ON THE
SIDE.>>YEAH.
>>THE BRONZE BOMBER, BEAUTIFUL.>>AND AGAIN LOOK AT THAT FISH
COMPARED TO THE SIZE OF THAT TOP WATER PLUG.
>>YEAH.>>AND HE JUST ABSOLUTELY —
>>I CAN’T FIGURE OUT WITH TREBLE HOOKS HOW THEY MISS THEM.
>>DID YOU SEE HOW EASY THAT CAME OUT?
>>YEAH.>>I LOVE TO PINCH THE BARBS OFF
MY HOOK FOR TWO BIG REASONS. ONE, YOU’RE NEVER GOING TO
GET — IT’S A LOT EASIER TO GET YOUR PLUGS OUT OF YOUR FISH AND
YOUR FINGERS. [LAUGHTER]
FOR THE ONES YOU HAVE HAD THE PLEASURE OF FEELING THAT.
>>MOST IMPORTANTLY OUT OF YOUR FINGERS.
[SPLASHING]>>HAPPY AND HEALTHY.
WE WILL GET THAT TRAP.>>ATTABOY.
>>THAT IS WHAT IT’S ALL ABOUT, MAN.
>>NICE JOB.>>I’VE BEEN DOING THIS FOR ALL
MY LIFE, JUST LIKE YOU. AND DON’T YOU JUST LOVE THE FACT
THAT YOU CAN COME OUT HERE –>>IT NEVER CHANGES.
>>AND MESS AROUND DOING THIS AGAIN FOR THE 1,000th TIME.
GO AHEAD.>>ATTABOY.
>>RIGHT ON.>>NICE JOB, DAWG.
>>THANK YOU, SIR.>>ALL RIGHT.
I’VE BEEN BLOWN UP ON. ANOTHER STEP.
[LAUGHTER] IN THE PROCESS OF ACTUALLY
CATCHING A FISH.>>CLOSED CAPTIONING BROUGHT TO
YOU BY GATOR FORD.>>”REEL ANIMALS” HOOK IT & COOK
IT BROUGHT TO YOU BY RUMFISH GRILL AT THE GUY HARVEY OUTPOST.
>>HEY, GANG. TODAY I’M AT THE RUMFISH GRILL.
WE’RE ON ST. PETE BEACH IN ST. PETE BEACH, FLORIDA
WE’RE AT THE GUY HARVEY OUTPOST. I’M WITH CHEF AARON.
AARON, WHAT ARE WE WHIPPING UP TODAY?
>>WE’RE GOING TO MAKE SOME CEVICHE.
>>OH, NICE.>>MAKING THE CEVICHE, WE’RE
GOING TO USE BAY SCALLOPS, GULF SHRIMP AND SOME LOCAL GROUPER.
>>OKAY.>>THIS IS GOING TO BE SEASONED
WITH CILANTRO AND SOME FRESH MINT, TOMATO, POBLANO, RED
ONION. THIS IS THE SECRET INGREDIENT
HERE. THIS IS BASICALLY THE ELIXIR IN
ANY CEVICHE YOU’RE GOING TO COME ACROSS.
LEMON JUICE, LIME JUICE. AND WE HAVE A LITTLE SRIRACHA IN
THERE.>>OKAY.
>>WHAT’S GOING TO HAPPEN, THE P.H. LEVEL OF THE SEAFOOD IS
LOWER THAN THAT OF THE LEMON JUICE.
A LITTLE BIT OF TIME INVOLVED. THE LEMON JUICE IS GOING TO COOK
THE SEAFOOD. SO STARTING OUT FRESH, YOU CAN
SEE IT’S DEFINITELY RAW. HOURS LATER SEAFOOD IS OPAQUE.
IT’S COOKED THROUGH. IT’S FROM THE ACID IN THE LEMON
JUICE.>>OKAY.
IS THERE A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF TIME YOU NEED TO DO THAT?
>>WE DO IT FOR 12 HOURS.>>OKAY.
>>WE’RE GOING TO PLATE THIS OVER ARUGULA.
WE SELL A LOT OF THESE, REALLY POPULAR.
WARM WEATHER, COLD SEAFOOD. SO TO FINISH THIS, MIKE, WE’RE
GOING TO USE SOME FRESH LIME, SOME LEMON, SLICED JALAPENO,
SLICED CILANTRO, FRIED PLANTAINS.
>>AARON, THAT LOOKS ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC.
FOR THIS GREAT RECIPE AND MORE, GO TO OUR WEBSITE.
“REEL ANIMALS” HOOK IT & COOK IT BROUGHT TO YOU BY RUMFISH GRILL
AT THE GUY HARVEY OUTPOST.>>WHERE DOES YOUR PASSION FOR
FISHING COME FROM? YOU OBVIOUSLY FISHED AS A KID
AND GREW UP HERE.>>YEAH.
YEAH. NOT ORIGINALLY FROM HERE, BUT
BEEN FISHING HERE SINCE 1980. AND JUST LOVED IT, MAN.
I MEAN THE FIRST TIME WE EVER WENT SALTWATER FISHING WAS ’84.
I WAS AN 8-YEAR-OLD KID AND HAD NEVER SAW A SNOOK BEFORE.
AND THE FIRST TIME THAT A SNOOK JUST DESTROYED MY LURE AND TOOK
OFF SCREAMING DRAG, JUMPING OUT OF THE WATER, I MEAN I JUST
ABOUT LOST MY MIND. I WAS HOOK, LINE AND SINKER EVER
SINCE THAT DAY.>>NOW YOU LIKE TO DO THAT TO
OTHER PEOPLE. THAT’S GOOD.
>>ABSOLUTELY. THERE IS NOTHING MORE THRILLING
THAN TAKING A GUY WHO’S SEEN IT ON TV A LITTLE BIT, MAYBE READ
ABOUT IT ON A MAGAZINE OR JUST EVEN HAD A BUDDY TELL HIM WHAT
IT’S LIKE. AND YOU GET HIM OUT HERE AND
HE’S LIKE YEAH, YEAH, I KNOW WHAT YOU ARE SAYING.
AND THEY JUST LOSE IT THE FIRST TIME THEY GET A GOOD FISH ON.
>>TURN INTO A LITTLE KID.>>YEAH, EXACTLY.
I LOVE WATCHING THE YEARS FALL OFF A PEOPLE WHEN THEY GET TO DO
STUFF LIKE THIS, MAN.>>THAT’S A GOOD WAY TO PUT IT.
YEARS FALL OFF, ABSOLUTELY.>>YEAH.
IT’S A TREASURE, MAN. IT’S A PRIVILEGE OF MINE.
I FEEL LIKE IT’S A BIG PRIVILEGE TO BE ABLE TO DO THIS FOR A
LIVING. THE OTHER DAY WE HAD A BIG FISH
ON THAT ACTUALLY TOOK OFF AND COVERED ABOUT 25 FEET ON ITS
TAIL. IT TOOK OFF JUST TO RUN, BUT IT
CAUGHT AIR. AND LITERALLY WAS LIKE A
CIRCUS-TRAINED DOLPHIN OR SOMETHING.
I MEAN WE ALL WERE LIKE, ARE YOU KIDDING ME?
WHAT WAS THAT? DID YOU JUST SEE THAT?
[LAUGHTER] THAT’S ONE OF THE NEATEST THINGS
THAT’S ALWAYS DRAWN ME TO FISHING OVER BIG GAME HUNTING.
YOU COME OUT HERE AND YOU TAKE 10 OR 15-POUND TEST LINE AND YOU
ARE CHASING AROUND A FISH IN THE SHALLOW WATER.
YOU HAVE GOT TO MAKE THE PERFECT CAST.
LIKE EARLIER, YOU HAD TO ROCKET YOUR CAST OUT THERE.
YOU FINALLY CATCH THE FISH AND ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU’RE TALKING
ABOUT A BIG TROPHY RED OVER 10 OR 15 POUNDS OR A SNOOK IN THE
SAME CATEGORY, YOU BESTED THE WILD ANIMAL, YOU CAUGHT IT.
YOU GOT ALL THAT PLEASURE OUT OF THAT, AND IT’S RENEWABLE.
>>RIGHT.>>YOU GET TO TURN IT LOOSE AND
MAYBE DO IT AGAIN ANOTHER DAY. THAT’S WHAT’S SO AWESOME ABOUT
BIG GAME LIGHT-TACKLE FISHING.>>I AGREE.
CAPTAIN RHETT MORRIS, NICE JOB, BUDDY.
YOU PUT ON A CLINIC, MAN.>>THANKS, BROTHER.
>>NOW YOU’VE GOT TO HAVE ME BACK SO I CAN ACTUALLY CATCH
SOME FISH.>>ABSOLUTELY.
>>YOU KNOW WHAT I’M SAYING?>>REDEMPTION.
>>GOOD STUFF. ABSOLUTELY GOOD STUFF.
WE CERTAINLY HOPE YOU ENJOYED THIS WEEK’S EPISODE AS MUCH AS
WE ENJOYED BRINGING IT TO YOU. I’M CAPTAIN MIKE ANDERSON
REMINDING YOU THAT WHATEVER YOU DO, DON’T LET YOUR KID BE THE
ONE THAT GOT AWAY.
